Muñekita ___ The Story of Judy
Concept Development · Art Direction · Experimental Film · Mixed Media · Sexuality & Identity · Visual Metaphor
Muñekita is an audiovisual art piece that transforms sexuality into a playground for curiosity, desire, and reflection.
Through the surreal story of Judy, an inflatable doll who becomes self-aware, the work explores self-perception, body politics, and identity in a world where pleasure and morality collide.
Using mixed-media techniques, the film balances irony, sensuality, and discomfort to spark conversation about the body, play, and the ways we construct meaning around sex

Muñekita film
BRIEF
The assignment was to create a short mixed-media film of up to two minutes, experimenting with different materials, filming techniques, and editing approaches.
The process began by selecting four key words, from which we develop a conceptual sentence, and later, a full creative concept that could guide both the visual and narrative direction of the piece.
The goal was to experiment through making, to engage physically with materials, textures, and media while translating abstract ideas into moving images.
Muñekita emerged from this exploration, evolving into a conceptual story that bridges art, body, and identity through playful and provocative visual metaphors.
GOAL
To explore sexuality as art and play, transforming the body into a shifting territory for connection, adaptation, and discovery.
The work seeks to challenge cultural and visual norms surrounding desire, vulnerability, and identity, inviting audiences to approach them with openness and curiosity.

CONCEPT
At the heart of Muñekita lies the idea of the body as an ever-changing material, ephemeral, expansive, and resilient. The experimental story follows Judy, an inflatable doll who unknowingly becomes conscious of her own existence, confronting questions of self-awareness, objectification, and identity.
Each object within the piece carries symbolic weight:
Safety Pin - connection, protection, and vulnerability, mirroring the delicate balance between intimacy and risk.
Sauna - heat, sweat, and release; a metaphorical site of transformation and liberation.
Balloon - a symbol of breath, expansion, and fragility, the body as something that fills, empties, mutates.
The recurring act of inflation and deflation becomes a visual metaphor for emotional tension, self-image, and the fluid boundaries between body and object.

PROCESS
The creative process began with conceptual research into body representation, fetish culture, and performative art. From there, we developed a narrative and visual system centered on Judy’s awakening, using materials, set design, and photography as primary storytelling tools.
The experimental video blend textures such as latex, rubber, water, air, and sound to create a sensory, immersive experience. The camera work was designed to oscillate between intimacy and detachment - echoing the doll’s transformation from object to subject.
During production, we experimented with materials that behave like bodies - inflatable plastics, heat, and breath, allowing the medium itself to communicate movement, resistance, and fragility.
Post-production integrated sound layers of exhalation, stretching, and rhythm to emphasize the physical and psychological elasticity of the body.

MY ROLE
I led the project as concept developer, art director, and creative producer, shaping its narrative, visual language, and production design.
I also served as the film’s editor and co-cinematographer, ensuring that every visual and rhythmic decision supported the emotional core of the story.
In addition, I oversaw the set, styling, and mixed-media experimentation, maintaining a cohesive dialogue between concept, aesthetics, and message throughout the creative process.
SOFT SKILLS IN ACTION
Leadership & Direction: Guided all visual and technical aspects of the mixed-media production.
Creative Vision: Developed a bold and conceptually cohesive aesthetic narrative.
Experimentation & Risk-Taking: Combined unconventional materials and techniques to convey emotional meaning.
Technical & Artistic Versatility: Contributed as co-cinematographer and editor, balancing visual precision, pacing, and emotional resonance.
Adaptability: Transformed technical challenges into aesthetic opportunities.

CHALLRNGES
A major challenge was maintaining a balance between provocation and depth, avoiding clichés while addressing sexuality with nuance and care.
Working with inflatable materials and mixed textures also required technical precision and adaptability; lighting and movement had to respond dynamically to the changing shapes of the set.
By embracing unpredictability as part of the process, I turned material fragility into a strength, letting accidents and distortions contribute to the film’s meaning.

IMPACT
The project was selected for the LAUS 2025 Awards in the Audiovisual category, recognizing it as an innovative and socially impactful design piece.
It was also officially selected for the Short Spotlight Film Festival in the UK, where it was showcased among short films that push the boundaries of visual storytelling.
Muñekita stands as an experimental exploration of sexuality, body, and perception, bridging art direction and philosophy.
